Culture and Historical Responsibility in Germany Memory culture shapes how societies understand their past and its relevance for the present. In this seminar, we explore forms and political dimensions of remembrance in Germany, with a focus on the crimes of National Socialism. A key component is a visit to the Buchenwald Memorial. We will engage with the history of the concentration camp and reflect on the role of memorial sites in Germany today. How is history conveyed, and how does remembrance contribute to democracy and human rights? The seminar invites critical reflection on memory, responsibility, and their significance for contemporary society.
